News for Peterborough -

"My dearest son, Jesse Nwokejiobi (Ugochukwum), you were the first fruit of my loins; you taught me how to be a mother and watched me do motherhood in spite of the challenges we are prone to along the path of this earthly sojourn" MUM'S TRIBUTE

A post-mortem examination has confirmed that a 17-year-old boy who was killed in Cambridge on Saturday afternoon (19 November) died as a result of a stabbing.

The examination, which took place this morning (Wednesday), concluded Jesse Nwokejiobi died from a single stab wound to his chest.

Police were called by the ambulance service at 2.52pm on Saturday with reports of a stabbing in the vicinity of Logan’s Meadow.

Despite best efforts of paramedics, Jesse, of Edinburgh Road, Cambridge, was pronounced dead at the scene.

A 14-year-old boy was arrested at his home in Cambridge at about 11.30pm on Saturday night, while another 14-year-old boy and a 17-year-old boy were both arrested at their homes in South Cambs around midnight the same night.

All were arrested on suspicion of murder and have since been released on bail to return to Thorpe Wood on 20 February to allow for further enquiries to be carried out and evidence gathered.

Anyone with information is urged to pass it to the Major Crime Unit online via the Major Incident Public Portal. Anyone without internet access should call 101 and quote Operation Helix.

Supt Adam Gallop, head of local policing for the south of Cambridgeshire, said: “We know there are images being circulated on social media as one has made its way to us.”

He said detectives investigating the murder  are appealing for images to be shared with them.

Supt Gallop said: “I want to thank those people who have already come forward, and appeal once again to those that knew Jesse, and maybe know something about this terrible crime.

News for Peterborough - “Jesse Nwokejiobi was killed in broad daylight in a Cambridge park. The events of that November were a horrific reminder of the lasting devastation that knife crime can cause in our communities”.
A 17-year-old boy who died in Cambridge on Saturday afternoon (19 November) has been named as Jesse Nwokejiobi.

“Please come forward like others have and help us find answers for Jesse’s family.

“My plea is for people to send us these images which can be easily done online via the Major Incident Public Portal.

“I want to reassure the community that because they may have something on their phone, doesn’t mean they are in trouble, but evidentially it could help our investigation.”

Police are also interested in seeing any dash-cam footage from those who were in the St Andrews Road area between 2pm and 3pm on Saturday.

Supt Gallop added: “I am aware that the update we gave earlier around three individuals being released on bail may have caused some concern.

“There are strict policies in place which only allow us to keep people in police custody for a certain length of time without charging.

“I would like to offer reassurance that we have in excess of 100 people working on this investigation from the Major Crime Unit.

“We also have specially trained search officers and an additional 20 investigators from local policing who are assisting with carrying out house-to-house and CCTV enquiries.

“We are working extremely hard to gather evidence and ultimately get justice for a young man who has tragically lost his life.”

Anyone with information is urged to pass it to the Major Crime Unit online via the Major Incident Public Portal.
