- A 7 mile-stretch of the A47 in Cambridgeshire remains closed after a double decker bus was involved in a crash with a car this afternoon.
Emergency services remain at the scene and Cambridgeshire police warn the road is likely to be closed for some time.
The crash happened on the busy stretch between the Guyhirn roundabout and Wisbech – which on an average day would see 20,000 vehicles pass through.
Few details of the crash have been released at this stage, but aerial photos show the crashed car screened off and nose down in a ditch. The double decker bus also left the road but remained upright.
Injuries to the car driver are not known but a relative of one of those on board the bus has posted to social media that there are no casualties. That report is awaiting confirmation.
Drivers can divert away from the A47 via the village of Wisbech St Mary or alternatively head towards March and take diversionary routes.
Policing Fenland report that “we are currently dealing with a #RTC on the A47 at Guyhirn. The road is currently closed between Rings End and Wisbech, and likely to be closed for some time. Please take alternative routes – avoid the area if possible”.
Cambridgeshire Fire and Rescue Service posted that “we have crews in attendance at a road traffic collision on the A47 between Guyhirn and Wisbech. A road closure is in place so please seek alternate travel routes where possible”.
