Specialists in solar photovoltaic panels and battery storage, building fabrics, heat pumps, electric vehicles and charging as well as infrared heating and heat recovery are being brought together to support Cambridgeshire businesses.

They will be part of a free event being held in St Ives next month in a bid to show firms how they can cut carbon and costs through a low carbon business support programme.

Cllr Nick Gray, vice chair of the county council environment and green investment said: “Businesses have an important part to play in reducing carbon emissions and creating a Net Zero Cambridgeshire by 2045.

“If you’re a business owner, thinking about how you can make changes to adapt to the low carbon economy, consider taking up this offer of free tailored advice and support.”

The programme, which is supported by Cambridgeshire County Council, aims to assist small and medium sized businesses to reduce energy use and costs and prepare for a low carbon future.

“No matter where businesses are on their low carbon journey, the programme offers something for them with business diagnostics, technology reviews and training available from expert business advisors,” said a county council spokesperson.

“The low carbon business support covers all areas of business operations and is tailored to the area/s most useful for each business – and all at no cost to the company. There is a particular focus on energy management.”

On Tuesday 23 May, the low carbon business support programme will be hosting a showcase event – which includes breakfast –at the Burgess Hall, St Ives 8am-12.30pm

“Doors will open at 8am and begins with an opportunity to network with like-minded business people as well as renewable energy experts and solutions providers,” said the spokesperson

“During the morning there will also be the opportunity to listen to guest speakers and hear from local businesses about how the programme has helped them start their own low carbon journey and cut costs.”

The event will close with the opportunity of a site visit at the St Ives Park & Ride Micro Grid project and learn more about how it is supporting Cambridgeshire reach its ambitious goal of Net Zero carbon dioxide equivalent emissions by 2045.

Separately, there are a few remaining places available for the final two-day training sessions offered by the programme taking place on 16 and 17 May 2023 in Papworth Everard.

The programme, which also covers Peterborough, is delivered by Cambridgeshire County Council in partnership with PECT and Deyton Bell Ltd and runs through to the end of May 2023.

The project has been part-funded by the European Regional Development Fund.
