Ashberry Homes donated furniture from a show home in Fordham to a charity supporting homeless people in Cambridgeshire.

The furniture from the development, off Soham Road, will be sold at Emmaus Cambridge’s charity shop at Green End in Landbeach.

The charity supports people to work their way out of homelessness, providing work, training, support and a home for as long as they need it.

Its community at Landbeach includes a shop, a café and a tech recycling and refurbishing project.

Diane Docherty, the CEO of Emmaus Cambridge, said: “These sorts of donations are an amazing gift to Emmaus.

“We are able to sell such quality goods easily to support our income generation which enables us to do what we do and help more people.

“I say a personal thank you for this donation because such donations help in lots of ways, from giving people on a low-income access to lovely furniture to supporting the work Emmaus does in supporting people out of homelessness.”

Ashberry Homes has built 52 homes at Cortlands, including 21 affordable homes available for local people through low-cost rent or shared ownership.

Construction is now complete, and just one home remains for sale.

The furniture donated to Emmaus Cambridge was from the development’s three-bedroom Cardamine show home and included chairs, artificial plants and other household items.

Amy Hughes, sales manager for Ashberry Homes, said: “As a housebuilder, we are committed to helping organisations which support those who do not have a roof over their heads.

“As we come to the end of our project to deliver high-quality new housing for the community in Fordham, we are pleased to be able to help such a worthwhile local charity, as well as seeing our furniture being reused and given a new lease of life.

“We hope this donation provides a greater choice of high-quality second-hand furniture for Emmaus Cambridge’s charity shop customers and raises much-needed funds for its work helping people move out of homelessness.”
