Passing fire crews stopped off in a Cambridgeshire village to rescue a 6 month old kitten that had been trapped in a tree for 36 hours. Cottenham firefighters were on their 8th call of the day and heading home from Thriplow where they had attended an automatic fire alarm activation.

“We were asked by our colleagues in control to call in to Trumpington on the way home,” said a Cottenham brigade post on Facebook.

“They asked if we could try and assist in getting a 6 month old kitten out of a tall tree.

“On arrival we found the kitten Simian at the top of a rather precarious and potentially rotten section of the tree approximately 15 meters high.

“Simian’s owners and members of the public had been trying to coax him down for over 36 hours with no success.”

The post added: “With Simian looking very tired and scared we thought the only and safest option was to call for the turntable ladder.

“Our friends from White watch Cambridge were soon on scene to assist and after a little persuasion simian was brought down to safety.

“We would also like to point out that contrary to the myth this was the first time that most of the crew had ever been called to a cat in a tree.”

The post added: “Please remember that only in extreme/approved circumstances do we attend incidents like this one.”
