Animal rights campaign organiser John Curtin was arrested and later bailed yesterday on condition he leaves Camp Beagle. Mr Curtin was arrested outside MBR Acres at Wyton near Huntingdon where he has campaigned with others for more than 2 years to halt beagles from being used for research.

Camp Beagle is recognised as being the longest running, permanent grassroots animal rights protest camp in the UK, if not the world.

Cambridgeshire police confirmed today to CambsNews that “a 61-year-old man from Huntingdonshire was arrested yesterday on suspicion of causing a public nuisance and for three offences under drone flight legislation.

“He has since been released on bail with conditions not to be in the Wyton area, not to pilot drones for any reason and not contact anyone linked to MBR Acres”.

Moira, one of Camp Beagle supporters, has launched a GoFundMe appeal to fund Mr Curtin’s legal costs.

She said: “John is a main player and will need decent legal representation. Please donate what you can.

“You can reach out to anyone in Camp to validate my sincerity. All donations and payment to support John’s legal case will be open and transparent from me. Just donate the price of a cup of coffee. Every penny helps.

“The Beagle puppies need John and so do we. Thankyou.”

Demonstrators have camped outside MBR Acres (Marshall BioResources) in Huntingdon for over two and half years
