A prolific shoplifter who targeted a Peterborough Co-op store 13 times over the space of four weeks has been given a curfew and ordered to go to rehab.

Geoff Killday, 46, of Chadburn, Paston, was identified as being responsible for several thefts from the Thorpe Road store and arrested in Bridge Street, central Peterborough, on 20 October.

He appeared at Peterborough Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday (9 November) where he was ordered to complete six months drugs rehabilitation and a 20-day rehabilitation activity requirement, after previously admitting two charges of theft from a shop.

Killday, who must also adhere to a curfew between 7pm and 7am for the next three months, also admitted a further 11 offences of shoplifting which were taken into consideration (TIC) upon sentencing.

PC James Westlake, who investigated, said: “Killday admitted he would steal wine and confectionary for money to fund his drug habit.

“As part of his punishment he has been ordered to complete a period of rehabilitation which will hopefully give him the support he needs to stay away from crime, which puts a strain on businesses in the area.”
