This is stalker Philip Robinson who crept into a woman’s bedroom while she was sleeping. Robinson, 40, of Coronation Avenue, Warboys, near Huntingdon, climbed through an unlocked window at the victim’s home and made his way up the stairs about 11.30pm on 11 June, a court was told.

The victim woke with a jolt to find a man standing at the foot of her bed and, as the television glare lit up her bedroom, she recognised him to be her neighbour.

Terrified, the victim shouted at Robinson: ‘what are you doing – get out!’ which woke up other family members and as they managed to get him outside the home, he repeatedly said he was sorry.

The police were called, and officers heard that over the past few months, Robinson had been carrying out a campaign of stalking towards the victim, which had escalated quickly.

At first, Robinson would sit on his mobility scooter at the end of his driveway, watching the victim’s home and would try to talk to her when she came outside, but she tried to avoid talking to him.

The victim said he then started travelling down a communal pathway near to her garden, and as the weeks went by, he was doing this more and more, and often parked his scooter so it would face her home and back garden, staying there for about 15 minutes.

Robinson was arrested on 12 June for stalking and bailed with conditions not to contact the victim or go to Coronation Avenue.

However, in the following days he breached his bail conditions several times – he was seen leaving a property there and on another occasion, attempted to cross the road towards the victim’s home and was arrested for continuation of stalking.

During a police interview, Robinson said the victim had been flirting with him due to her wearing shorts and because she had talked to him but confirmed she had never told him her name.

And when explaining as to why he appeared in her bedroom, Robinson said he thought she had sent him a text inviting him to do so, but then said he was wrong, he did not receive any such message.

On Wednesday, (6 December) at Peterborough Crown Court, Robinson was sentenced to two years and three months in prison after pleading guilty to stalking involving serious harm and distress, at a previous hearing.

DC Alan Tregilgas, who investigated, said: “Robinson’s behaviour was despicable, it was a frightening experience for the victim in her own home where she should feel safe.

“Stalking is a horrendous crime, and I would like to take this opportunity to thank the victim for her courage and bravery in reporting this to the police. I hope this sentencing provides her with some sort of closure.”
