A burglar stole copper piping worth up to £700 and caused £1000 of damage during a break-in at a St Neots, Cambridgeshire, home.

Matthew Curtis, 40, smashed glass on a door to break into the house between 24 December and 1 January.

While in the area he attempted to break into a neighbouring home, causing £2,500 worth of damage in the process.

Police found Curtis’ DNA at the first property.

Curtis, of Pendragon Hill, Papworth Everard, admitted burglary and attempted burglary.

Yesterday (5 March) at Cambridge Crown Court he was jailed for 18 months.

DC Zoe Bramley said: “Burglary can have a long-lasting impact on victims, as well as the short-term inconvenience and cost associated with the crime.

“We’re working hard to bring burglars before the courts as part of our ongoing efforts to make Cambridgeshire an even safer place to live.”
