One charged two others arrested after £50,000 Cambridge coins theft

One man has been charged and two others arrested in connection with the theft of £50,000 worth of coins from a Cambridge business. Joseph Ross, 35, of no fixed abode, has been charged with burglary and eight counts of theft.

He will appear at Peterborough Magistrates’ Court today (24 February).

A 34-year-old man, also of no fixed abode, has been arrested on suspicion of burglary and released on bail until 3 May.

A third man, also aged 34, from Cambridge has been arrested on suspicion of burglary. He remains in custody.

It follows an investigation by Cambridgeshire police after the Cambridge business was targeted twice in 24 hours by thieves with tens of thousands pounds worth of stock stolen.

Cambridge Coins, in Signet Court, Swanns Road, was broken into in the early hours of 20 February when about £40,000 worth of rare coins were taken.

At 10pm on the same day, the coin dealer was targeted for the second time. This time a safe containing about £10,000 worth of silver coins was emptied. The entire safe was thrown from the first-floor window and taken by the suspects.
