Police hit a crime ‘jackpot’ when they raided the home of Connor Sweeney in Cambridge. The 20-year old was found in possession of a shotgun and ammunition as well as substantial evidence of drug dealing.

Police carried out a warrant at Sweeney’s home in Staffordshire Street, Cambridge, on 22 April, suspecting he was dealing drugs.

While searching his home police found a shotgun and 15 shells in the garden shed as well as cocaine, cannabis, nitrous oxide cannisters, mobile phones, cash, and a wooden truncheon.

At Cambridge Crown Court on Friday (15 November), Sweeney was sentenced to six years in a young offender’s institute.

He had previously pleaded guilty to:

Being concerned in the supply of cocaine and heroin

Possession of an offensive weapon in a private place

Two counts of possession of cocaine

Being concerned in making an offer to supply cannabis.

Detective Constable Samuel Andrews said: “Tackling serious street-based violence, drugs, and ridding Cambridgeshire’s streets of weapons like this is a priority for the force.

“Weapons and crime often go hand in hand and the sentence given to Sweeney shows just how seriously the court takes these incidents.”
