Local charities got a boost as Tesco opened its 2,000th Express store on Tuesday 28th February 2023 in Cambridge.

The new store is located on Petty Cury and opens its doors for the first time at 9am.

To mark the opening of Tesco’s fifth store in Cambridge, Managing Director for Tesco Convenience, Kevin Tindall, joined colleagues to make a special award of £2,000 from Tesco’s Community Grants Programme to two local groups: The Red Hen Project and The Meadows Children and Family Wing.

To celebrate the opening, Tesco will also donate 2,000 meals to local schools.

Ben Collar, the store manager said: “It is exciting to have passed such a significant milestone here in Cambridge. Tesco has recruited 20 new colleagues and we are looking forward to serving customers in Cambridge city centre.”

The store manager added: “We are also very excited to be able to support the local community through our food collections for local foodbanks and the Tesco Community Grants Programme.”

The Red Hen Project supports local families and runs a cooking club to help parents learn new recipes and become confident to cook healthy, family- friendly meals on a budget.
