A runner struck by a car in Stretham on Saturday has died in hospital; he has been named as 52-year-old Stephen Chamberlain, a former executive of Cambridge software firm Autonomy.

Mr Chamberlain, of Station Road, Longstanton, had only recently been acquitted in a US fraud trial that involved the £8bn sale of the firm. He was the former vice-president of finance at Autonomy.

His family, paying tribute to him, said: “Steve was a much-loved husband, father, son, brother, and friend.

“He was an amazing individual whose only goal in life was to help others in any way possible.

“He made a lasting impression on everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.

The runner involved in the collision on Saturday has died in hospital and can now be named as 52-year-old Stephen Chamberlain of Station Road, Longstanton, Cambridgeshire.

By an astonishing twist of fate, his co-defendant in the American trial was tycoon Mike Lynch, who is missing in Italy after a luxury yacht sank during a storm.

Cambridgeshire police today renewed their appeal for witnesses after Mr Chamberlain was hit by a car on the A1123 Newmarket Road in Stretham. He has died in hospital.

The blue Vauxhall Corsa was travelling between Stretham and Wicken on the A1123 when the crash happened at about 10.10am on Saturday (17 August).

The driver of the car, a 49-year-old woman from Haddenham, remained at the scene and is assisting police with enquiries. She has not been arrested.
