A man arrested and handcuffed by Cambridgeshire police as he stepped off a plane at Gatwick Airport, has been released without charge.

“Following questioning, the Crown Prosecution Service refused to authorise a charge,” said a police spokesperson.

However, the 28-year-old from Spalding, arrested on suspicion of offences including assault causing actual bodily harm, has been given a civil protection order to “protect the victim”.

In a Facebook post Cambridgeshire police said the man was initially arrested “on suspicion of committing multiple offences in Huntingdonshire and Lincolnshire”.

“He was wanted for a number of offences involving domestic abuse in Huntingdonshire.

“Our officers were there to meet him with handcuffs as he came off the aeroplane. Investigations continue.”
