Wisbech artist Mia Grewal is the winner of the Visitor’s Choice Award in Wisbech and Fenland museum’s first Young Arts Open exhibition.

Visitors were able to vote for their favourite artworks during the Young Arts Open exhibition, which took place last month.

With 50 entries from young people aged three to 24 in a variety of media, there was plenty of talent on display.

Mia had previously won the Judges’ Award in the 12-15 age category for her entry, ‘Lady in a Hat.’

The judges commented: ‘We admired the ambition of creating an abstract image, with clever use of contrasting colour and diagonal composition.

“We particularly like the difference in texture and opacity of paint used to separate the foreground and background.’

The Young Arts Open invited entries of original artwork by young people aged 24 and under living, working, or studying in Wisbech and the surrounding villages. The exhibition was supported by the Friends of Wisbech & Fenland Museum.

Learning and Community Participation Officer Louise Haselgrove said, “We were blown away by the creativity and talent on display and were grateful to all those who took part and allowed us to share their artwork with our visitors.

“We hope to make this exhibition part of our annual programme and next year will be opening it up to entries from young people across Fenland.”
