A detective has described the robbery of a 65-year-old man in Wisbech as a “frightening ordeal” after two women were sentenced for the crime.

Sacha Fordham, 34, and Chelsea Jones, 27, were jailed after admitting to robbing the man of £40 in Orange Drove on 5 August last year.

The victim, a window cleaner, was approached by Fordham, who asked for £3. When he declined, she blocked his path, prompting him to move a money bag containing his earnings from his front pocket to his back pocket.

At that moment, Fordham attempted to snatch the bag, and Jones arrived to help her forcibly take it. The victim called for help, but Jones managed to rip the bag, fleeing with £40 in cash and leaving him with only coins.

Officers quickly responded and located the pair in Tillery Park, Wisbech town centre.

Following their arrests, Jones, of Blunts Drove, Wisbech, appeared at Huntingdon Law Court, where she pleaded guilty to robbery and received a 48-week prison sentence. Fordham, of Poppy Close, Wisbech, was sentenced to six months in prison at Cambridge Crown Court on 11 February after also pleading guilty.

Detective Constable Lisa Flatters, who led the investigation, condemned the attack: “This was clearly a frightening ordeal for the victim, who was simply going about his business when he was robbed of his earnings. I am pleased that both women eventually admitted the offence and have been handed custodial sentences.”
