A man ignored a restraining order before racially abusing security staff in Cambridge and attacking police officers. Alan Fulford, 59, breached a restraining order by going to his sister’s home on 24 October and again two days later.

On both occasions he banged on her front door loudly, and on 26 October he verbally abused her.

On 12 November, Fulford caused a commotion at the Grand Arcade car park in Cambridge and blocked access to part of it.

When two security guards challenged him he racially abused them before leaving the car park.

Twenty minutes later he returned and went to the security office, where he banged on the window and again became racially abusive.

Fulford threatened to pepper spray the security guards, before producing an aerosol and spraying them before leaving the area.

He was arrested on 5 December, charged with multiple offences, and released on court bail having appeared before Huntingdon magistrates on 7 December.

On 16 December, Fulford was arrested in connection with a separate matter and while in custody assaulted multiple police officers, including biting, kicking, and spitting at them.

Fulford, of no known address but from Cambridge, admitted breaching a restraining order, two counts of racially aggravated harassment, one of assault by beating and nine of assault by beating of an emergency worker.

On Thursday (25 April) at Cambridge Crown Court he was jailed for 21 months.

PC Simon Boast said: “Fulford’s behaviour was disgraceful. He was fully aware of the stipulations of the restraining order, but simply chose to ignore them and cause the victim distress.

“I’m pleased he has faced justice for the disgusting racial abuse he directed at security staff and the way he assaulted officers who were simply doing their job.”
