Bird flu is suspected to be the death of swans and geese in Peterborough.

“The south side of the river near Fletton Quays, Peterborough just now – evidence of bird flu – dead swans and geese,” tweeted Toby Wood earlier today.

“Very sad sight. Plenty of birds still around.”

Posting photos taken earlier today, Peterborough City Council responded that “we have already reported the discovery of some swans.

“Defra have asked us to pass this message on so everyone is aware”.

Other reports from the city reveal that dead swans and birds have also been seen at Ferry Meadows.

Signs warning of bird flu are being erected in parts of Ferry Meadows by the Nene Park Trust.

Peterborough Telegraph reports that the dead birds have been taken away by Defra (the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs) to confirm cause of death.

It is almost certain to be avian/bird flu.
