‘Terrifying’ moment man points imitation gun at Huntingdon homeowner and his daughter

A man pointed an imitation firearm at a man and his young daughter when he turned up at their Huntingdon home, a court heard. Andrjs Vanukovs, 33, approached a house in Huntingdon, in February and knocked on the door. When the homeowner answered, Vanukovs pointed an imitation firearm at him and his young daughter.

He used the firearm to smash a window before running away when the victim tried to defend himself.

Later that evening, Vanukovs was pulled over by police for driving while disqualified and further arrested for failing to provide a sample of breath at the roadside.

Vanukovs, of Nene Road, Huntingdon, pleaded guilty to offences of possessing an imitation firearm with intent to cause fear of violence, criminal damage, driving while disqualified and failing to provide a specimen for analysis.

He was sentenced to two years in prison at Peterborough Crown Court on Tuesday (7 May).

Detective Constable Billie Baker, who investigated, said: “While we don’t believe this to be a random attack, Vanukovs’ actions that night were absolutely terrifying for the victim and his young family.

“He caused extreme distress and hundreds of pounds worth of damage for no reason before going on to drive illegally.”
