A witness to a dog attack in March today – that seriously injured two women – says a man “risked his life” to step in and save one of the women from being mauled even more. “Both women are in hospital, not life threatening injuries-luckily,” she said.

“I was there. We need to be taught what to do in a dog attack. Everyone apart from me and 3 others did nothing. It was horrific.

“I don’t blame anyone for staying away, I’m just glad someone did something. The fella at the end of Henry Orbell Close needs some sort of recognition. He literally risked his life to save the young woman being mauled.”

The attack by a mixed breed dog happened at about 10.45am today in the area of Papworth Street, March.

The breed of the dog is not clear, but it is believed to be mixed and not covered by dangerous dog legislation.

A police spokesperson said that the man who stepped in to help control the dog suffered minor injuries but did not require hospital treatment.

The women remain in hospital.

Police are appealing for witnesses, particularly anyone who has video footage, to contact them on 101, quoting incident 153 of today.
