Police video has been released of a three minute pursuit through Cambridge that ended with a dangerous driver ploughing into a metal fence. Officers from the Road Policing Unit were on patrol in the city on the afternoon of 27 December (2023) when they spotted a white Nissan Kubistar they suspected to be uninsured.

They activated blue lights and sirens to signal to the driver, Bobby Loveridge, to pull over but instead the 32-year-old accelerated and reached speeds of more than 50mph along residential streets of Cambridge.

Loveridge overtook multiple vehicles and went head on into oncoming traffic and went through two red traffic lights before losing control and crashing into a metal fence on Mill Road.

At Cambridge Crown Court on Tuesday (22 October), Bobby Loveridge, of Cophall Drove, Little Downham, was sentenced to a year in prison, suspended for two years after pleading guilty to dangerous driving, driving without a licence, driving without insurance and possession of a class A drug.

He must also carry out 200 hours unpaid work and has been disqualified from driving for three years when he must take an extended retest.

PC Freddie Tomalin, from the Road Policing Unit, said: “Loveridge demonstrated a complete disregard for the safety of other road users when he sped through built-up residential areas in such a reckless manner.

“Thankfully no one was injured by his display of driving that afternoon, but that is no thanks to him.

“Our message is clear, we will not tolerate people to break the law by driving vehicles in a manner that puts other road users, and themselves, at risk of serious injury or death.”
