Park Ladies Football Club fearlessly faced off against the March Bears Rugby Club men’s team, trading their familiar fields for a thrilling game of football – and all to raise money for a good cause. A Park Ladies spokesperson described it as “a riveting clash of codes and genders”.

Kayleigh Dring, employability co-ordinator for the Hot Pots project said: “The money raised today will go a long way and help us to continue to support our local community. We would like to say a big thank you to all the players, supporters, and local businesses for their generosity.”

The match itself saw March Bears emerge victorious with a 5-2 win, in what was a spirited and fiercely contested encounter.

Rob Mitchell, manager of Park Ladies FC, said: “Park Ladies have always relied on the superb support of our fans and the local community, so it was brilliant to be able to give something back today.”

“We’ve got a tough run of fixtures coming up in October, so today’s match was a fantastic test of our team’s physical strength and determination as well.”

Park Ladies FC face Newmarket Town FC Ladies Development on Sunday 1st October at Doddington Recreation Ground in what could be a season-defining game, before facing high-flying Whittlesey Athletic and Real Bedford Ladies Reserves in the league and Histon FC Ladies Devs in the cup later in the month.

Any experienced players looking to join the club are invited to come along to a training session, with more information available on the Park Ladies Facebook page at www.facebook.com/parkladies
